August 21, 2011. Fort Montgomery Hike

Nls and I did this one on August 21st. We went to the historical site of the Battle of Ft Montgomery. We stopped in the visitiors center for a while and spoke with the staff there....such nice people. We then left with the intent of going to "hell hole" but could not find the path to it from Popolopen creek.

August 7, 2011 hike and waterfalls

This hike was with Nils and also April and Billy and our grandpuppies, Gibson and Georgia. We went back to the reservoir and walked completely around it. We did see a blue herron. stopped half way around the reservoir and let Gibson swim. He just loves the water!

We left there and went to the waterfalls off of Old Mineral Springs Road. It was amazing the difference in temperature and the breeze that the water fall created.

BLACK ROCK July 30, 2011

Great day abd started out around 9:30am. I just wanted to go to the reservoir before it got to hot. I used the new camelback that Nils got me this week but did not have time to freeze or even chill the water before I used it. I parked in the parking lot this time and walked in on Reservoir Road. There were no people to be seen until the way back but I did see a red headed woodpecker, numerous butterflies and dragon flies and 2 beautiful yellow birds (whick I did not get a shot of) and a hummingbird.

There was also a tree marked with a yellow sign that all NYS ash trees are threatened by the invasive ash borer. There was then a yellow rope up to a black box at the top. Not sure what that was but maybe a trap for the borers?

I also used my walking stick that Nils treated (and also attached some rope to the handle).

I was gone for about 2 hours but it was great to be out and busy taking pictures!!!

Walkway over the Hudson

June 19, 2011
Went for a walk on the "Walkway over the Hudson" bridge. I guess it's not a hike but close enough...It's outdoors, alot of history and just a nice time. It was Father's Day and this was what Nils wanted to do. April and I had been last fall but Nils and Billy had never been before. It was perfect weather and not as crowded as I thought it was going to be. We went about 3/4's of the way across before we turned around and headed back to the west side. Nils has had nightmares about falling off the Bear mountain Bridge so this was hard for him to do. All in all, I think it went well and it was his decision to do this.
The views are spectacular and it's nice to wathc the river traffic.
